Our product photos show instruments before final production.
Before dispatch, every Scala instrument is inspected, laser marked and passivated, giving it a clean, finished surface and added protection against corrosion.

The Cooley Rib Spreader Aluminium Newborn is a self retaining thoracic retraction instrument designed to provide controlled and stable rib separation during newborn cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The instrument allows gradual and precise opening to maintain consistent exposure of the operative field without continuous manual retraction, supporting accuracy and control in highly delicate surgical environments. Manufactured from lightweight aluminium, it minimises handling weight while maintaining the strength and stability required for neonatal use. The blade design with a width and depth of 12 x 16mm is shaped to engage the ribs securely while distributing retraction forces evenly to reduce localised stress on fragile anatomy. With an arm length of 65mm and a maximum opening width of 95mm, the instrument is proportioned specifically for newborn anatomy and limited operative access. It is suitable for repeated cleaning and steam sterilisation and is intended for use in operating theatres where reliable and stable rib retraction is essential.
These are re-usable, non-sterile medical devices (unless otherwise stated).
